Mistle Thrush nest beside my front door.

Post  doglady on Wed May 12, 2010 1:03 am

We have a half circular flower basket right beside our front door and we have 2 babies in it.They are Mistle Thrush babes,we had 4 eggs on Sat 1st May.......then we went away with Sony and came back Monday 3pm and we had 4 babies.
Then on Sunday night 9th we heard this almighty screaming affraid and it was the parents....a bloody big hawk of sorts was sat on the basket....I got up just intime to see it perched there.it took a baby..and Monday morning the same thing happened again.......
I heard the parents screaming and just saw a chase in mid air going on affraid .
We are now down to 2.but they are 10 daus old now and I have put a large flower tub infront with a big Camelia in..to hide them a little.
It took a few hrs before the parents would go to them.but they are feeding them still..so I am like a jailer now Laughing ...every time I hear the parents I fly to the window to make sure there are no big birds around.........
here are all 4 babes before 2 were taken..

heres mum

a small vid

wish I had turned the tele down....

Lucky has gone now......

Post  doglady on Tue Jun 08, 2010 6:17 am

I released Lucky on the 1st June.........however he/she flew straight into my neighboughs window and stunned him/her self. affraid so I picked Lucky up and placed him/her back in the avairy untill thursday 3rd June.

Lucky was being very friendly and flew to my arm from a roof across the road after I had released him/her again...apparently also on some lady's shoulder too......and also when I took Sony for a walk he followed me and flew onto Sony's back,so I placed Lucky on a tree and thank fully he/she stayed there...

However Lucky was watching us 1 morning when hubs and myself were talking in the garden at 6.30 am........he had just rtnd with Sony from his early morning walk and the little munchkin flew to our patio chair, landed on the back, hopped over the table and onto my arm.....

Now after this I placed Lucky back in the enclosed flight while we had breky etc and then opened the door.
He/she just flew out and onto another garden chair and watched me through our conservatory window..........infact.......everytime I moved from another room........there Lucky was watching me through the glass.........

I had realised by now that this area was not going to be a safe place ,so I took Lucky 2 miles away thursday morning.......and guess who appeared Sat..........but no garden visits.
I think he/she has fallen out with me now.......
I have seen and heard Lucky every day since........and heard Lucky once today but not actually seen Lucky,....... its raining alot here so maybe Lucky is sheltering,....
Anyway.....this is the last shots of him enjoy.......
8 sec vid eating mealworms......

Sony keeping watch......

29 days old in his/her fave place.

30 days old.

release day.
